Cheeky

I usually tell my kids NOT to focus on the Past but on the Present/Future. So I tell them, think of the past/present/future as a swimming pool with a diving board. You climb up to the diving board and the swimming pool is below you. So the Past is represented by the diving board and the Present would then be you diving or getting ready to dive, while the Future is represented by the height of the dive and the water you dive into. So you forget the Past after you jump 'cause it doesn't matter. I think it's a succinct analogy and works in many ways. So that worked for a little while and the kids get older. So my eldest comes to me today and says, "You know you always tell us not to talk about the past because it's not worthwhile and to concentrate on the present and the future. It makes sense but we only ask cause we want to know more and think it's important." I give him my point of view again and he comes back with, "We're wondering how high the diving board was from the pool?" Cheecky bast....kid. :)
